This week sees the launch of the Huish Community Learning Partnership Orchestra – Mr Bosworth has organised this very exciting opportunity for musicians across the CLP (Community Learning Partnership) to be part of a proper orchestra and play together on a regular basis. We hope it will prove to be a great success. It is open to all pupils who play an instrument, have lessons and who can read music. PARENT GOVERNOR We are delighted to announce the appointment of Mr Gavin Pretor-Pinney as the new Parent Governor. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs AFTER SCHOOL CARE CLUB As you know, the Governing Body is also very keen to get an After School Care Club up and running. We will keep you up-to-date with progress. In the meantime, if you wish to chat about our proposals, do speak to Mrs Kempton one morning on the playground. This trip to the science museum @BRISTOL will cost £5. The Friends have very kindly agreed to pay £200 for coach hire. Thank you! Please see separate letter. Fridays cake sale raised a whopping £43 for Playground Games - well done and thank you to everyone for your support. We llok forward to hearing what oys and games the Lunchtime Supervisiors spend the money on! The school was ‘on display’ at St Mary’s Church over the weekend of 16 and 17 October. We hope you were able to pop in with your families and friends to enjoy seeing the fantastic work our pupils have been busy producing this term. We also enjoyed a special service with Rev Bruce Faulkner on the Sunday, with brilliant musical interludes from members of our orchestra and even the children that have only just started learning an instrument - they are all very talented and enthusiastic! If you were unable to attend, but would like to hear more about the school, we are holding an Open Morning on Thursday 25th November from 9am until 12pm. Pop in to have a tour of the school and hear about all the things we have on offer. We welcome families with children of any primary school age. The children enjoyed sharing their poems and prayers with you at the school’s Harvest service on Tuesday. Thank you to Mrs Gollop and Mrs Thomas who entertained us so well with a sharing message and to Mrs Phipps who stepped in to play the music at the last moment – we send our love to Evelyn. A collection of £14 will be sent to the Send a Cow charity. The Harvest Lunch was delicious – the children baked the wonderful bread. A big thank you to the mums who came along to help prepare the lunch and clear away too. We could not have managed without you! Fridays cake sale raised a whopping £38 for Red Class - well done and thank you to everyone for supporting Red Class. We llok forward to hearing what they spend their money on! SUMMER FETE! What a success! The sun shone on us and made the Fete and enjoyable event, warmly welcomed back onto our annual calendar. The Country Dancing was a highlight for many parents and grandparents and our children did us proud! The Total Wipeout was a roaring success with children and parents proving equally competitive as they jumped, ducked, bounced and slid their way along the assault course. I am pleased to report that we raised in the region of £550. This money will go towards the cost of the weekly swimming lessons and the upcoming festive activities. CHADS - Summer 2010 We are very grateful to our village drama group, CHADS, for choosing Friends as the sole beneficiary of the £600 proceeds from their summer production ‘Inspector Drake and the Perfekt Crime’. Friends have worked hard over the years serving the CHADS audiences with a great selection of home-made refreshments during the intervals, which usually makes in the region of £100. CHADS extra generosity this year will make a huge difference to our fundraising and benefit all of our children. There are many other worthy causes which deserve the support of CHADS, so I am sure you will join me in thanking them for selecting us this time. The children performed brilliantly, the audience applauded enthusiastically and laughed in all the right places and thankfully, the weather didn’t stop us one little bit (even though it really tried)! PODS – July 2010 All the children were delighted to be involved in making our fantastic pod last week, which is proving very popular during breaktimes. The children have agreed rules for the use of the pod. There was great excitement on Friday afternoon when a swarm of bees descended on our school. They settled on the tree near to the gate to the car park so the area was cordoned off and the children marshalled around the road. Mr Joe King from Pilton and a member of the Somerset Beekeepers Association very kindly came and removed the bees. Photos here. . Conductor of the orchestra, and Junior 1 Class teacher, Mr Jeremy Bosworth, said that the visit was “inspirational and something that the children will remember for the rest of their lives”. Mr Hazlewood, who kindly signed autographs and answered questions at the end of the visit, said that he was impressed to see an orchestra such as this in a primary school setting. Photos here. Marvellous Fun! - May 2010 Budding gardeners visit new allotment - May 2010 Red Class: Red Class enjoyed their first trip to their allotment at Lytes Cary last week. Children took it in turns to go on a bug hunt and to help National Trust volunteers to plant vegetables. Red Class later asked 'Friends' if they would purchase some new gardening tools for them. 'Friends' were delighted to help and have supplied Red Class with a selection of spades, rakes, trowels, forks and gloves. Jumble Sale and Nearly New Sale - May 2010 £593 was raised at the Jumble and Nearly New Sale: Thank you to all the helpers at Saturdays Jumble and Nearly New Sale. It was a good turn out despite the heat. Music for Youth - 20th March 2010 They received a fantastic reception at the South West round of Music For Youth on Saturday - the judges poured praise on our brilliant orchestra who played three pieces. It is believed that results will not be announced for some time to come. Mufti Day - 19th March 2010 Mufti Day for all pupils. Donations of Easter Eggs or £1 were brought in to support next weeks Easter Bingo, organised by our Friends group. CLP Talent Show - 15th March 2010 A great audience enjoyed fantastic performances from everyone at the Talent show. The judges had a very difficult task but finally chose a very popular winner - Joel, from Kingsbury Episcopi, who really wowed the whole audience with his side splitting performance of 'I Want My Mummy'. Very well done to all of our Charlton Mackrell performers; Skye, Natasha, Phoebe, Zoe, Freya, Ellen, Jessica and Georgina - who received warm applause for their singing, playing and acting.

World Book Day - 4th March 2010 Children enjoyed sharing their favourite books with each other on World Book Day 2010. Tag to Twickenham - 3rd March 2010 All year 6 pupils and a few year 5's took part in the Tag to Twickenham, tag rugby tournament on Wednesday (involving 11 teams in all). Charlton Mackrell played well winning all the matches in the first round taking them through to the winners pool where they played a further three games. Despite injury's, blisters and exhaustion all played fantastic tag rugby resulting in joint second place overall. Well done all. Photos to follow shortly. Architect Unveils Plans - 1st March 2010 A well attended meeting took place outlining our Architects plans for the school. Plans include a new workspace for children and a new Entrance/Reception Area. Red Tractor visits Red Class - 1st March 2010 Mr Wellstead is brought a tractor and digger into the carpark for Red Class to look at and draw. PreSchool were also invited into the carpark to have a look. Goldilocks and the Three Bears - 25th February 2010 Parents/carers were invited to watch Red Class retell the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears, an insight into what the children have been learning in Literacy. Red Class repeated this to the whole school in the Celebration Praise on Friday. Parent and Pupil Survey - 25th February 2010 Parent and Pupil Surveys - We hope everyone received a copy of the Parent and Pupil Survey, on the last day of term. Whole School Visit to Wells Cathedral - 10th February 2010 An amazing experience for us all. Thank you Mrs Reade for organising such a super visit. Macbeth Theatre Trip - 8th February 2010 J2 visit to watch Macbeth - Junior 2 pupils were on the edge of their Yeovil Octagon seats on Monday afternoon as they watched Shakespeare for Kids’ thrilling version of ‘Macbeth’. Thanks to the Friends for subsidising this visit. A new arrival - 6th February 2010 Mrs Kempton became a GRANNIE!!! Astrid was born on Saturday 6th February, weighing in at a healthy 7lbs 9ozs. We wonder if Mrs Kempton will finally get her knitting needles out now?! CLP Drama Course - 3rd February and 27th January 2010 Drama - 27 Jan & 3 Feb Mrs Kempton is running two drama courses aimed at talented pupils from across our Community Learning Partnership. Three of our Year 2s will be joining in too. Parents Forum - 2nd February 2010 Last week, the children enjoyed visiting the website and have suggested lots of good ideas to make it even more interesting. At last week’s forum, parents were consulted. If you weren’t able to be at the meeting and have suggestions, do let us know and if we can include them, we will! We are trying to up-date the site on a weekly basis. Whenever possible, urgent items are put on as a banner at the top of the home page. J2 Presentations - 2nd February 2010 Very well done to all members of Year 4, 5 and 6 for their well-rehearsed gym routines and super stories and photos from their Beacon camp. Thank you to Mrs Phipps and Mrs Thorner for encouraging the children to take such a pride in their work. Fairy Tale Treat - 1st February 2010 The whole school enjoyed two new versions of Little Red Riding Hood and Hansel and Gretel, devised by GCSE students at SHerborne High School for Girls.. Very convincing performances by the girls held us on the edge of our seats! We hosted our first Cross Country Race at Lytes Cary after school on Tuesday 26th January, for the CLP. We were delighted to see the majority of our Key Stage 2 children taking part. Baptism of Liam Lion - 25th January 2010 RAF Motivational Day - 21st January 2010 CHADS Pantomime - 14th/15th/16th January 2010 Bishop of Bath and Wells visit - 12th January 2010 The Bishop of Bath and Wells cuts the tape as he officially opens our outdoor learning area. The school was presented with a very special plaque bearing the Diocese coat of arms. During his visit, the Bishop saw the school in action in gymnastic and ICT lessons and sat in Red Class’ hot seat to answer some of the children’s questions. Snow Days! January 2010 Children were granted an extra few days off due to the good old British Weather! The school no other option than to close, despite every effort to remain open. Children enjoyed sending in photographs of how they spend their time! A Special Visitor - December 2009 A very special visitor flew in by Helicopter! Father Christmas took a break from his busy schedule, to pay our children a special visit. Our thanks goes to the Royal Naval air crew. Christmas with the Aliens - Infant Production 2009 Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 delighted their audience with two superb preformances of 'Christmas with the Aliens'. Science Week - 2009 J2 Class, investigating forces! J2 Fundraising - 2009 J2 Class, busy fundaising for their residentail trip to the Beacon. Selling their own produce and Mrs Phipps' homemade jam!
